Abstract
Estimating the Value-at-Risk (VaR) of a non-listed or newly listed company in stock market is impossible due to lack of stock exchange data. This study employes Case-Based Reasoning (CBR) for estimating VaR's of those companies. CBR enables us to identify and select existing companies that have similar financial and non-financial characteristics to the unlisted target company. The VaR's of those selected companies can give estimates of VaR for the target company. We developed a system called VAS-CBR and showed how well the system estimates the VaR's of unlisted companies.
Vehicle License Plate Recognition System using DCT and LVQ

Abstract
This paper proposes a vehicle license plate recognition system, which has relatively a simple structure and is highly tolerant of noise, by using the DCT(Discrete Cosine Transform) coefficients extracted from the character region of a license plate and the LVQ(Learning Vector Quantization) neural network. The image of a license plate is taken from a captured vehicle image based on RGB color information, and the character region is derived by the histogram of the license plate and the relative position of individual characters in the plate. The feature vector obtained by the DCT of extracted character region is utilized as an input to the LVQ neural classifier fur the recognition process. In the experiment, 109 vehicle images captured under various types of circumstances were tested with the proposed method, and the relatively high extraction rate of license plates and recognition rate were achieved.
Locating Text in Web Images Using Image Based Approaches

Abstract
A locating text technique capable of locating and extracting text blocks in various Web images is presented here. Until now this area of work has been ignored by researchers even if this sort of text may be meaningful for internet users. The algorithms associated with the technique work without prior knowledge of the text orientation, size or font. In the work presented in this research, our text extraction algorithm utilizes useful edge detection followed by histogram analysis on the genuine characteristics of letters defined by text clustering region, to properly perform extraction of the text region that does not depend on font styles and sizes. By a number of experiments we have showed impressively acceptable results.

Abstract
In retail industry, it has been a major focus of marketing to identify and manage loyal customers effectively. Being established as a mature distribution channel, Internet retailing has launched various one-to-one marketing efforts and enjoyed much more fruitful outcome because it is founded on digitally enabled infrastructure. As more complicated and crowded transactions are expected, Internet retailing is in need of electronically available customer management services. This research presents architectural design of Web services for loyal customer management in Internet retailing. The fundamental models of the services are based on traditional RFM analysis. The Web services provide various agents that automate complicated loyal customer management tasks. beadily available Web services are expected to easily integrate into existing applications of any electronic retailers.
A Fault Diagnosis System of Glass Melting furnace Using A Fuzzy Export System

Abstract
This paper presents an application result of on-line fault diagnosis system for glass melting furnace using a fuzzy expert system. Operators maintain the furnace using the furnace Knowledge and experience, which directly influence the furnace and glass product. Firstly, knowledge and experience is achieved and analyzed to implement the furnace Knowledge and experience into fuzzy expert system. The acquired Knowledges determined as a crisp rule or a fuzzy rule to expect its characteristics. And, a linear regression is used as the input of fuzzy rule to consider the exact knowledge of human operator. The fuzzy expert system is implemented with G2 which is an on-line expert system tool of Gensym Co. The application to a production furnace of Samsung-Corning Co. in Suwon shows successful results of proposed fuzzy expert system.
Lip Recognition Using Active Shape Model and Shape-Based Weighted Vector

Abstract
In this paper, we propose an efficient method for recognizing lip. Lip is localized by using the shape of lip and the pixel values around lip contour. The shape of lip is represented by a statistically based active shape model which learns typical lip shape from a training set. Because this model is affected by the initial position, we use a boundary between upper and lower lip as initial position for searching lip. The boundary is localized by using a weighted vector based on lip's shape. The experiments have been performed for many images, and show very encouraging result.
Developments of Parking Control System Using Color Information and Fuzzy C-means Algorithm

Abstract
In this paper, we proposes the car plate recognition and describe the parking control system using the proposed car plate recognition algorithm. The car plate recognition system using color information and fuzzy c-means algorithm consists of the extraction part of a car plate from a car image and the recognition part of characters in the extracted car plate. This paper eliminates green noise from car image using the mode smoothing and extract plate region using green and white information of RGB color. The codes of extracted plate region is extracted by histogram based approach method and is recognized by fuzzy c-means algorithm. For experimental, we tested 80 car images. We shows that the proposed extraction method is better than that from the color information of RGB and HSI, respectively. So, we can know that the proposed car plate recognition method using fuzzy c-means algorithm was very efficient. We develop the parking control system using the proposed car plate recognition method, which showed performance improvement by the experimental results.
Automated Negotiation Model among Agents Using Extended Alternating-Offer Game in Electronic Commerce

Abstract
Recently, many researchers have developed applications for automated contract and negotiation using agent technologies on electronic commerce. Especially, they have tried to study negotiation mechanism applying agent instead of buyers and sellers. Traditional researches, however, often had limitations. In the researches of automated negotiation, the agents had to negotiate with the other agents for a simple negotiation issue because the mechanisms were naive. In the researches of negotiation by user interaction, the agents did not have supported the procedures and methodologies for making the automated negotiation but only supported the users by providing communication environment during the negotiation process by users. In this paper, we propose efficient negotiation model using the modified negotiation model of the game theory. In the proposed model, the agents negotiate automatically with the partner agent and make good benefits by the strategic method during the negotiation process. Each agent makes negotiation issues with user's requirements and exchanges its suggestion alternatively in each step of the negotiation process. The agent evaluates degree of satisfaction for the opposite's suggestion and uses it in the next step of suggestion. To find out the negotiation strategies of opposite side, the agent uses teaming by weights of issues. As a result, the agent improves each own benefits for the contract and reduces the unbalance of its benefits through the proposed negotiation mechanism. We implement the negotiating agents according to the proposed mechanism and prove the efficiency of the proposed model by various experimentation.

Abstract
In electronic catalogs, each item is represented as an independent unit while the parts of the item can be composed of a higher level of functionality. Thus, the search for this kind of product database is limited to the retrieval of most similar standard commodities. However, many industrial products need to configure optional parts to fulfill the required specifications. Since there are many paths in finding the required specifications, we need to develop a search system via the configuration process. In this system, we adopt a two-phased approach. The first phase finds the most similar template, and the second phase adjusts the template specifications toward the required set of specifications by the Constraint and Rule Satisfaction Problem approach. There is no guarantee that the most similar template can find the most desirable configuration. The search system needs backtracking capability, so the search can stop at a satisfied local optimal satisfaction. This framework is applied to the configuration of computers and peripherals. Template-based reasoning is basically the same as case-based reasoning. The required set of specifications is represented by a list of criteria, and matched with the product specifications to find the closest ones. To measure the distance, we develop a thesaurus of values, which can identify the meaning of numbers, symbols, and words. With this configuration, the performance of the search by configuration algorithm is evaluated in terms of feasibility and admissibility.

Abstract
Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a new markup language for data exchange on the Internet. In this paper, we propose a language extensible Rule Markup Language (XRML) which is an extension of XML. The implicit rules embedded in the Web pages should be identifiable, interchangeable with structured rule format, and finally accessible by various applications. It is possible to realize by using XRML. In this light, Web based Knowledge Management Systems (KMS) can be integrated with rule-based expert systems. To meet this end, we propose the six design criteria: Expressional Completeness, Relevance Linkability, Polymorphous Consistency, Applicative Universality, Knowledge Integrability and Interoperability. Furthermore, we propose three components such as RIML (Rule Identification Markup Language), RSML (Rule Structure Markup Language) and RTML (Rule Triggering Markup Language), and the Document Type Definition DTD). We have designed the XRML version 0.5 as illustrated above, and developed its prototype named Form/XRML which is an automated form processing for disbursement of the research fund in the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAISI). Since XRML allows both human and software agent to use the rules, there is huge application potential. We expect that XRML can contribute to the progress of Semantic Web platforms making knowledge management and e-commerce more intelligent. Since there are many emerging research groups and vendors who investigate this issue, it will not take long to see XRML commercial products. Matured XRML applications may change the way of designing information and knowledge systems in the near future.
